New books for a new semester!

January began with a shipment of new books, just in time for the start of the spring semester! The additions run the gamut from graphic novels and fantasy to sports, hunting, horror and romance.

One highlight is the arrival of several books in the “Death Note” graphic novel series, including a book of short stories. We now have “Death Note 12” and “Death Note 13,” as well as “L: Change the WorLd” and “Death Note Short Stories,” which is a light novel and mystery about ace detective L, whose name has been written in a Death Note.

“Salvacion” is a fantasy romance about a “lady vigilante” who must battle evil magic and the man who wields it to save her town. In the graphic novel “Crumbs,” based on a WEBTOON comic, a special bakery offers treats that help dreams come true.

“The Forest of Stolen Girls” combines mystery with historical fiction. Thirteen girls have vanished over the years in a forest in Korea, and two sisters begin to investigate after their detective father also disappears while on the case.

New books also include “Every Spiral of Fate,” the fourth novel in the Woven Kingdom romantasy series by Tahereh Mafi; “The Fear Zone,” “Punching Bag,” “We Fell Apart,” “Batman & Robin Year One,” “How to Ride Off-Road Motorcycles,” “Abuela, Don’t Forget Me,” “1001 Hunting Tips,” “The Total Deer Hunter Manual” and “The Ultimate Scholarship Guide 2026,” among others.

We’re also adding poetry and books written in verse. Stop by and give them a look!

Thanksgiving & gratitude at the library

Did you know that practicing gratitude for just 5 minutes each day can lead to better mental health, self-esteem, and sleep? This month in the media center we’re celebrating Thanksgiving with gratitude journals!

Students are encouraged to decorate a journal and write or draw each day about what they are thankful for. Whether it’s a quick note, a letter to a loved one, a sketch or something else, using a journal can help us reduce stress, increase empathy and improve our mood.

Stop by the library to grab a free journal and visit the display of “Books we are thankful for.”

Halloween and ‘Scary Good Books!’

Happy October! The media center is gearing up for Halloween and the spooky season with books, decorations, contests and more!

We also have new books on the way and will be hosting several college prep events. We’re wrapping up the Hispanic Heritage Month book display and craft, so stop by and visit before it’s gone!

This month’s display is “Books that are scary good!” A spine poetry contest (see photo!) using horror books will begin Oct. 13. We’re also celebrating the holiday with new coloring sheets, Halloween trivia, haunting bookmarks, & broom hockey!

College planning will be a focus point for the library this year, and a wide variety of resources are available to help students in all grades with college searches, checklists, applications, advice, test prep, financial aid and scholarships, essay writing, virtual tours and much more.

College planning materials have been moved to the center of the library to make it easier to browse. Several new and updated books have been added over the last few months, including college selection and test study guides.

A drop-in college prep club is scheduled for Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays in the library during I&E. Stop in and get help with applications and planning!

Looking ahead to 2025-26

I’m so excited for the 2025-26 school year! The library has been busy as we add new books, create displays and plan events. We’ve already received our first book order!

We kicked off the semester with some changes. A distance-learning classroom has been created at the back of the library, and the newly updated classics collection has moved from the center of the media center to an area near the entrance. The college prep display has moved to the center of the library to make it easier to browse.

Plans for the next few months are to continue adding books, especially in poetry, horror and romance. And keep an eye out for more reading challenges, writing contests and events!

New books!

Celebrate National Poetry Month with the library!

April is National Poetry Month, and we’re celebrating with books, a writing contest, fun trivia and more! Guess whether lines from poems were penned by Tupac, Taylor Swift or Shakespeare, browse the library’s poetry collection, or enter the poetry writing contest.

To enter the annual Poetry Writing Contest, submit a poem on any topic, in any form, to Mrs. Heaslip in the library during the month of April.

Submit up to 2 entries per person. The top two entries will win a prize. See Mrs. Heaslip for more information.

College prep resources get a refresh
